As Dimple Agarwal steps down from her role as a diversity champion at Deloitte, where it has been revealed only one black person holds a equity partner position. Perhaps firms need to reconsider, who they choose to place in such key positions if it is change they want to see. And how if at all they monitor the progress of said targets.

As presently Deloitte, has just one black equity partner. EY and KPMG have two and PWC in the lead have six.

A report last June revealed that just 11 out of 3000 equity partners in these big four firms are black.

For all the criticism that Bill Michael’s, former UK chair and senior partner at KPMG received after his zoom address to employees, it seems he was right when he said, that unconscious bias training is nonsense.

‘……… I don’t buy it. Because after every single unconscious bias training that’s ever been done, nothing’s ever improved. So unless you care, you actually won’t change.’ — Bill Michael

I know that these firms and many more around the city, in response to BLM protests not only promised changed but ramped it up with unconscious bias trainings. However the stats show in the words of Bill Michael that nothings improved.

It is all very well pledging and promising change in the heat of the moment but we are all tired of the talk. They are plenty of competent individuals who are passionate about making change, can these big four firms open their eyes and make progress where they claim they to want change.

This is not a call for affirmative action but just some action would suffice.

Because I just find it difficult to believe that there are next to no competent black employees within these individual firms or any black people on the job market that can add value to senior positions in these firms.
